Islamic motives and especially Koranic verses are widespread on drinking vessels, since both are believed to spread divine blessing (baraka) to the liquid. In the last one or two decades, though new fashions and techniques of print, layout and application appeared that changed the look of these vessels. See here, for a historic example of earthenware.
