Giving alms or "zakat" (زكاة) is one of the five pilars of Islam (أركان الإسلام). Thus, Islamic charity organizations, play a big role in contemporary Muslim life, whether they collect foremost during Ramadan or for special purposes like Muslim refugees or, like in this case, in a general manner, linked to the Islamic state of Iran.
